Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration (169.254.x.x APIPA)
The computer connects to the wireless router radio but fails to receive a DHCP IP address lease, defaulting to an unroutable 169.254.x.x Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) address.
Internal desktop parts run on harmless 12V DC voltage and cannot shock you. Simply unplug the wall power cable first, then touch the unpainted metal case frame to ground static electricity.
Common Symptoms & Tells
- Windows network troubleshooter reports 'Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration'
- Running ipconfig shows IPv4 Address: 169.254.x.x and empty Default Gateway
- Wi-Fi status reports 'No Internet, secured'
Interactive Fix Checklist

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and execute: ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew. If it reports 'unable to contact DHCP server', proceed to reset services.
Restart the DHCP Client service
Press Win + R, type 'services.msc', find 'DHCP Client', confirm its status is 'Running', and ensure its Startup Type is set to Automatic.
Reboot home router to clear full DHCP table
Unplug your internet modem and Wi-Fi router from the wall outlet for 30 seconds, plug them back in, and wait 2 minutes for the router DHCP pool to reinitialize.
Forget and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network
Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks > Click 'Forget' next to your network name > Reconnect and enter the Wi-Fi password freshly.
