Press Win + R and enter: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset. Wait 2 minutes for the icon to reappear (or manually restart OneDrive from the Start Menu).
Pause syncing and verify system responsiveness
Click the OneDrive icon in the system tray > Settings gear > 'Pause syncing' > Select '2 hours'. If CPU and disk usage immediately normalize, a specific sync folder is looping.
Exclude developer folders and node_modules from backup
Move coding workspaces, virtual machine disks, and Git repositories outside of OneDrive-synced folders (e.g. store them in C:\Dev\ rather than C:\Users\Name\Documents\).
Unlink and re-link your Microsoft Account
