MSI EZ Debug LED Motherboard Diagnostic and POST Triage
Troubleshoot boot hangs and hardware initialization failures indicated by MSI EZ Debug LEDs (CPU, DRAM, VGA, BOOT) and 2-digit Debug Code LEDs.
Internal desktop parts run on harmless 12V DC voltage and cannot shock you. Simply unplug the wall power cable first, then touch the unpainted metal case frame to ground static electricity.
Common Symptoms & Tells

Shut down the PC, switch off the power supply rocker switch (O), and unplug the AC power cord from the wall. Press and hold the chassis power button for 5 seconds while unplugged to drain all residual capacitor energy before touching any internal hardware.
Inspect EZ Debug LED sequence
During normal boot, MSI boards cycle through CPU -> DRAM -> VGA -> BOOT and turn off. If an LED halts and remains solidly lit, initialization failed on that specific component.
Resolve DRAM LED hang
Turn off power and reseat sticks firmly into slots DIMMA2 and DIMMB2 until both retention clips click. Test with a single stick in DIMMA2 if dual-channel training fails.
Resolve CPU LED hang
Verify the EPS 8-pin CPU power cable is firmly clicked into the top-left motherboard header (do not confuse with PCIe 8-pin). Check CPU socket for bent pins or uneven cooler mounting pressure.
Resolve VGA LED hang
Reseat the graphics card into the primary PCIe x16 slot. Ensure all 8-pin or 12VHPWR auxiliary power cables are fully locked with zero gap.
