Connect internal PC buzzer or speaker
Verify a 4-pin piezo buzzer is connected to the SPEAKER pins on the front panel header. Modern cases lack built-in speakers, requiring a standalone buzzer to hear acoustic error codes.
Decode AMI BIOS beep codes
1 short beep indicates successful ; 1 continuous long beep indicates memory refresh failure; 5 short beeps indicate CPU failure; 1 long 3 short beeps indicate memory test failure; 1 long 8 short beeps indicate video adapter failure.
Decode Award BIOS beep codes
1 long 2 short beeps indicate video adapter error or loose ; 1 long 3 short beeps indicate keyboard controller failure; continuous repeating high-pitched beeps indicate memory error or overheating.
Test minimum configuration
Disconnect all storage drives, remove (if CPU has integrated graphics), and test with one stick to isolate which component triggers the fault beep.
