The default gateway is not available (yellow exclamation mark)
The network adapter loses route connectivity to the local router or access point, causing Windows network diagnostics to continually reset the gateway adapter.
Internal desktop parts run on harmless 12V DC voltage and cannot shock you. Simply unplug the wall power cable first, then touch the unpainted metal case frame to ground static electricity.
Common Symptoms & Tells
- Windows Troubleshooter reports: 'The default gateway is not available - Fixed', but it breaks again 10 minutes later
- Yellow warning triangle on taskbar network icon
- Cannot access local router web interface at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
Interactive Fix Checklist

Open Device Manager > Network adapters > Right-click your Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter > Properties > Power Management tab > Uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' > Click OK.
Assign a static Default Gateway and IP address
Open ncpa.cpl > Right-click network adapter > Properties > Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Set manual IP: 192.168.1.150, Subnet: 255.255.255.0, Gateway: 192.168.1.1, DNS: 1.1.1.1.
Perform full network stack reset in CMD
Run in Administrator Command Prompt: netsh int ip reset && netsh winsock reset && ipconfig /flushdns, then restart the computer.
Update router firmware and check for IP lease exhaustion
Log in to your router admin panel. Increase the DHCP IP pool range or update the router firmware to resolve ARP table dropouts.
